Upon arrival in Kathmandu, visitors will be in the heart of Nepal's largest city and capital, a bustling tourist destination that was once believed to be the fabled and inaccessible Shangri-La. Legend has it that the Kathmandu valley was once a turquoise lake with a lotus flower resting on it. Manjushree, a patriarch saint from China, sliced the valley wall with his flaming sword of wisdom at Chovar, revealing the dry land. The great stupa of Swoyambhunath was built on the spot where the lotus flower settled on the valley floor. The Kathmandu valley is home to the three ancient Royal cities of Patan, Bhaktapur, and Kathmandu, each with their own palace and ornate palace squares, all listed as World Heritage sites. The palace squares' cobbled lanes are a fascinating maze of temples, shrines, marketplaces, and vibrant life that revolves around them. Visitors will receive assistance upon arrival at the airport and transfer to their hotel in Kathmandu, where they will spend the night.

Breakfast Included

After breakfast, there will be a tour of the Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath Stupa. Pashupatinath Temple is considered one of the holiest shrines of all Hindu temples worldwide. The temple of Lord Shiva, Pashupatinath, is famous for its superb architecture, with a tiered golden roof and silver doors. Non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the temple precinct. Boudhanath is the largest stupa in Nepal, located on flat land surrounded by houses and monasteries where Rinpoches reside. In the afternoon, there will be a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swoyambhunath stupa. Kathmandu Durbar Square is located in the heart of the old city and dates back to the Licchavi period. It was progressively constructed over many centuries, with considerable renovations by Malla rulers and later the Ranas. Swoyambhunath, located atop a green hillock west of Kathmandu, is over 2,500 years old and marks the spot where the legendary patriarch Manjushree discovered the lotus of the ancient Valley Lake. It is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal and offers a bird's eye view of the city. Visitors can circumambulate the stupa clockwise, turn the banks of prayer wheels, and even prostrate full-length as an act of reverence. The overnight stay will be at a hotel in Kathmandu.
